Objectively speaking, and I think I am an outspoken Naruto fan, I think Ichigo would most likely win, but I think it is dependant on where the fight would take place.

Firstly, my understanding is that shinigami only have power over souls and things like that, so if the fight were taken to the real world than it would be Naruto, mainly because he is a ninja and Ichigo is just a regular human. However, if done in soul society, Ichigo hands down, the difference in power is a little too much.

Mangalov3r, in defense, these are required readings, I had to come up with a criteria somehow. I know there are a lot of fantastic mangas and manwhas out there, but I had to draw the line somewhere. I thought that 300 chapters shows how viable the manga has been and that it has lasted over 4 years, because let us be honest, there are tons of fantastic short mangas out there, and I am a fan of a bunch. But i was looking at longevity in this case. Also I chose the anime as the second criteria based on the fact that a lot of people start one and get into the other. I started watching anime before I started reading manga, and that is why I made it part of the criteria, so that someone starting out can look at both. Does my criteria now make sense, or would you have changed it, and if so to what?

I know we have a lot of reccomendations and stuff and I love it. But I wanted to make a list of essentials for people who are just starting out, or have missed out on what I view as the essentials if you read manga. I have created this list with my own criteria: 1, it has to be over 300 Chapters and 2, It most likely was made into an anime. Those are my criteria, let me know if you think I am either too strict or these are ludicrous criteria.

Naruto is first, mainly because it opened my eyes to the manga world and made me an Otaku. Those of you who know what an Otaku is most likely are one yourselves, and those who do not know what it is, then you are not one yet.

One piece is also something everyone should try. But with it you should know that it seems you either love it or hate it, and there rarely is an in between.

Bleach also a love it or hate it type manga.

Katekyo Hitman Reborn, even though I disagree it still meets the Criteria.

Hajime No Ippo, absolutely, has over 900 chapters.

History's Strongest Disciple

Kekkaishi, even though I haven't read it yet, I do believe that it is an essential read and it is on my to do list.

There is also Flame of Recca and some old ones that you should read but are not required because they do not meet my criteria so I did not put them on the list.

These are all the ones I believe most people should have read or are reading. It is, in my opinion, a nice mix of most of the genres except for shojo, mainly because i don't like shojo. Let me know what you think and if you have any others you want to put in here.

Remember, this is required reading not recommended reading.

WHAT DO YOU THINK IS THE MOST OVERRATED AND UNDERRATED ANIME/MANGA?

Naruto gets bashed a lot, but not because of the manga itself but because of its popularity. Firstly, I have yet to meet anyone who says they do not like Naruto or that they have never read it. It is like required reading if you are into manga. It is not over rated at all, in fact it is not on many lists either because it is a give in or the person does not want to put it there because they don't want to be main stream. That is my two cents on that.

Most overrated manga is Bleach. Before every bleach fan starts getting angry at me like I get angry at those who bash Naruto, please know that I am a fan of Bleach. However, the story, in my humble opinion, jumps around way too much towards the end. The fact that it is not linear may intrigue others, but it confuses the hell out of me sometimes, especially when only one chapter comes out per week and I have to remember something that happened a month and a half ago. Sorry, that is my objective opinion.

Most underrated manga is quite easy, there are a few. Hajime no Ippo is one, over 900 chapters and still going strong but no one ever mentions it. Eyeshield 21, another good one, but I think it is underrated mainly because it has been completed and is now off shonen, not a real reason to be underrated but I still say that it is. I could put fairy tail in here as well, but it is fairly new and therefore does not meet my requirements of being underrated. Even though there are 200 chapters out now, I remember just being lucky to come across it. History's strongest disciple has been picking up speed in rankings, but it still is not where I believe it should be. In my opinion it should be in the top 10 of most people.

One Piece, is my favorite manga, on par with naruto. I know I am a shonen fiend. The one problem with One Piece, and I can say objectively as a bias fan, you either love it or you hate it, there seems to be no middle ground with this, but it should be given a shot by most people.

That is my opinion, let me know what you think.

Naruto, obviously. But you should watch from the beginning not shippuden. If you do, you will be rewarded with a great story and lots of great fight scenes and an intense story although there is some filler in the series.

One Piece, very little filler, awesome story but not as good as manga, but if you read the manga then watch the anime.

Shura no toki. Absolutely awesome one fight scene per episode and great martial arts.

Basilisk, stay away from this, horendous and tedious to watch.

Berserk, fantabulous.

Ah My goddess

Please Teacher/Onegai Teacher

Fairy Tail

Cowboy Beebop

Trigun

Dai Guard, the only mech series i enjoyed

Full metal panic

Full metal panic fumofu

Full metal alchemist

Zatch Bell

Dragon Ball

Dragon Ball Z

Dragon Ball GT

Outlaw Star

Hunter X Hunter

Shaman King

Baki the Grappler

History's Strongest Disciple, even if it is only the first arc

Yu Yu Hakusho, awesome

Tenchi Muyo

Bleach, but only the beginning, it starts getting really weird later on

Air Gear, but kind of ends abruptly

Saiyuki

Samurai 7

Samurai Champloo

Afro Samurai

DN Angel

Maburaho

Love Hina

Ninja Scroll

Invader Zim, not really anime but a hell of a lot of fun to watch

Bastard!

12 Kingdoms

Hayate Combat Butler

Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicles

That is all I can think of at the moment.

I LOVE MANGA!!!! I just thought I should get that out of the way before I started this thread. I like the fact that I can wait every week and be updated with a new part of the story. However, there are sometimes where I just want to read the manga and not have to wait for the ending. I know that some of you will think that I am just a party pooper and waiting for the next chapter is half the fun. I agree with that sentiment, but what do you do in the mean time when there is nothing else to do but wait. Here is why I came up with this thread, some reccomendations to you all who sometimes don't have patience:

Eyeshield 21: 333 chapters.
I personally liked this one because I like football. But this is not about football, it is about what a mangaka from japan thinks about american football and put a story and an interpretation into it and voila, eyeshield 21. It is a little slow in the beginning, and by that I mean the first 5 chapters. Highly entertaining and worth the read, hear is what it is about:
Kobayakawa Sena is a freshman in highschool. Despite his previous decisions to change his life, he finds himself in the exactly same place he was in during elementary school and junior high: a push over and an errand boy. However, this changes when Hiruma, the most feared person in his school and president of the American Football Club, notices Sena and forces him to join the Football Team. Now Sena will become Eyeshield 21, a mysterious running back with lighting fast speed.

MAR: 161 Chapters
Fun kid type of story, and entertaining. The concept of the fighting tools is a little like Bleach and the zanpakutou or if you have read 666 sata, like o-parts. Light hearted story and fun to read. Here is what it is about:
Ginta Toramizu is a 14-year-old kid who doesn't have a lot going for him: he's near-sighted, doesn't do well in school, sucks at sports, and to top it off--he's short! But Ginta is a dreamer and has had the same dream 102 times, always in the same fantasy world, where he is a hero blessed with all the abilities he lacks in real life.
Then one day a supernatural figure appears at Ginta's school and summons him to a mysterious and exciting new world! In this strange universe filled with magic and wonder, he is strong, tough, agile--and he can see without his glasses! Thus, Ginta begins a mystical quest in search of the magical items known as "

666 Satan: 76 chapters
Slow and entertaining is the best way I can sum this up. Sometimes tedious to read, but I enjoyed it. I know this doesn't sound like a rave review, and it is not, but it is only 76 chapters so it was worth it. The creator of 666 satan is the brother of the guy who does Naruto so you will see similarities in the story and the drawing between the two mangas. I enjoyed it, but if it had been more than 100 chapters I probably wouldn't have put it on this list. Here is what it is about:
Ruby Crescent is an ordinary girl, who likes to go out with boys and shop. Her life is changed dramatically when her father dies and she becomes a treasure hunter as he was. Her objective is to find O-Parts -- magical items hidden under the ground which grant people superhuman powers and can only be used by an O.P.T. (O-Part Tactician) or descendant of the Angel and Devil. She soon meets a mysterious boy named Jio who, due to having a dark, lonely past, seeks to conquer the world. Jio is hostile to her at first, but ends up travelling with Ruby as her bodyguard. When Ruby is attacked by an O.P.T. claiming to be Satan, Jio rushes to her rescue and a battle occurs. Initially they are on the losing side, but Jio releases his true power and is revealed to be not only an O.P.T., but the real Satan. Thus, the two continue to travel together in hopes of unlocking their pasts.

Rave: 296 Chapters
Fun read, worthwhile. Illustrations are similar to fairytail. Was definately enjoyable. Highly recommend. Here is what it is about:
The Continent of Song is in chaos. The sinister secret society known as Demon Card is using the power of Dark Bring to destroy everything in their path. The only things capable of stopping Dark Bring are the Rave stones. Unfortunately, the Rave Stones were scattered around the globe in an explosion 50 years ago, so now they must be collected by the Rave Master in order to stop Dark Bring once and for all.

Zatch Bell: 323 chapters
Loved this one. Thoroughly reccomend. Entertaining and totally worthwhile. Here is what it is about:
For his 14th birthday, Kiyomaro received a strange little boy named Gash Bell as a bizarre gift from his father. Kiyomaro soon discovers that there's more to Gash than his dad ever realized--Gash is a mamodo child with magic powers that are unleashed by reading spells from a mysterious red book...and there are 99 other kids like Gash who must fight one another to become the king of the mamodo world!

Flame of Recca: 329 Chapters
I haven't finished this one yet, am currently in the process of reading it. I like it so far so I am putting it on this list. Here it is what it is about:
Becoming a ninja is just a childhood dream for sixteen-year-old Recca, until a fateful encounter reveals he has inherited ninja powers, including the ability to wield fire! As Recca learns to master the ancient ways of his ancestors, he is drawn to protect a mysterious girl named Yanagi...

Please feel free to add or criticize my choices, I just thought some of you might like them.

If you want completed Manga that was on shonen, then eyeshield 21 is the way to go. Slow starting but you get into it really quickly. Flame of Recca is okay, not the best. Hajime no Ippo, over 900 chapters so it will take a little bit of time. MAR is alright. Monster Soul is 7 chapters long and was the creator of Fairy Tails first work. Satan 666 which was done by the brother of the guy who does Naruto. Slam dunk I hear is good, but i haven't read it yet, on my to read least. There are also a bunch of manwhas that are really good such as, Veritas, Yureka, the Breaker and Vinland Saga. If you need more ideas, check my profile and what I am reading and what i have read and what I want to read, you could get some good ideas from that.
