i don't know if you solved this problem already but the best way is to be honest and direct. If you like him, tell him you like him. if not tell him you are not. well i am a guy and it never work if he still thinks he got a shot. hello guys i will give some ideas that i got from reading your stories I think the conflict should begin when all the representatives came together and at that moment a giant explosion happens at their meeting(continuing purplegnome post). Some representatives die and some live, they start blaming each other for the explosion (it could be that not everyone was at the meeting, or someone was set up). I think the protagonist should start as a nobody. (maybe like a son of a representative, I was thinking about the son of the martial arts representative). He could fight for revenge or because he has a obligation to take over. His team mates (way later in the story) should be from all the countries.
