death pretty much explained it, you could also call it "the purification magic"
Indian shamans and healers use a form of it.

 that is a little tricky to explain.

it's like they are using actual ingredients ( stuff that really exists ) to fend off "evil spirits"

i remember my mom used to use sage for that
and one of my dad's ex wives made her son take peyote for some "demon" she thought was following him around.

it's like they use real herbs and stuff to fight off evil O__e
