Read Manga Online

Just so you know, I kind of like fantasy, more so than most. I like the idea of magic, I like the idea of medieval times, when people thought of magic as something mysterious and actually believed in it. But I have a lot of western views on the subject, unlike the east where they have their own views. But the one thing that always bothered me about most magic mangas and shows and things of that nature was that not everyone could use it, and that it required some incredible amount of ki/life energy/magic/mana/etc. This idea always bothered me. It also bothered me that there was only one way for most people to achieve a certain effect, such as casting a fireball you had to say the incantation the proper way and move your hands in the proper course, or have the sacrifice to do so. I am not saying that these things don't balance the idea of magic, but to me it just seemed off putting. How did someone figure out the incantation or the way you were suppose to move your hands?? This enough of an intro to my idea of a manga? Well then here it goes:

My name is Asher, I live in the world of Brin. In my world there is magic, both good and evil, light and dark, compassionate and ruthless. It is not know why, but here everyone is born with magic. At the age of 5, the magic manifests itself by marking the child, often with its affinity over the heart. There are literally hundreds of affinities in this world, and new ones that had never been thought of before will appear throughout the world. The reason for this is, the type of magic a person will use is based upon the imagination of the child within their first 5 years of life.

However, you can also imagine that there are some rather silly affinities out there, considering the cumulative imagination of 5 year olds. Yet there are also some basic ones, such as elementalism, which uses the elements as its base of magic, fire, wind, water, earth, ice. But there are also those who have magic such as laughter, which the person can use to make the other person laugh. I on the other hand am a body mage. I can freely manipulate my body to do what I need it to do. But I did not get to this point all on my own.

In Brin, all children, once they receive their affinity are required to go to school where they can learn how to harness their magic. But this is not normal school where they teach incantations, spells or what not. School is a place where they teach each student to be able to use their imagination to figure out uses for each persons affinity. What use is it to be able to make people laugh if they are trying to kill you? This is where my story begins, in what I called school and others called the Academy Magi.
