Just a thought if all the characters have that armour you were talking about, it sounds pretty futuristic. The martial arts clans could be the people that break away from all the technology etc. getting back to nature as mentioned. Or as an alternative the armour could now be a part of life that the characters have evolved into, and then it is practically a part of their bodies. Chocolate

Maybe something else like under the ocean in an underwater city. Then that would suggest more advanced technology that could be involved in the story Chocolate
