The cranium of the hornet is carroty and to a certain extent wide in comparison to other hornet species. The complex eyes and oculi are dark brown, and the protuberances are dark brown with orange escapes. The clypeus (the iron plate on the front of the head) is ginger and coarsely penetrated; the posterior side of the clypeus has narrow, rounded lobes. The mouthpiece is bulky and hairy with a black indentation (inner biting inner) which is used for groping.
Any thoughts on this discovery common insectologists?
